The arrival of coach Stephane Le Mignan in 2020/2021 represented a real quantum leap for US Concarneau as, for the first time in their history, they found themselves fighting for a promotion to the Ligue 2. And in the past season they actually made it, despite a deep crisis between October and February, reaching the top of the Championnat National only in the next-to-last week of the campaign. Le Mignan, who had an experience among the professionals with Vannes Olympique, was logically confirmed in charge. He usually adopts an aggressive 4-4-2 formation and his sides score plenty of goals. In fact, Concarneau held the best attack of the Championnat National and 29-year-old El Khoumisti was crowned top scorer of the league. While the latter is still with them, the likes of wingers Boutrah, the best player of the season, and Rabillard, 23 goals and 8 assists together overall, left for pastures new. Matondo, who has no Ligue 2 experience but did well at Les Herbiers in Championnat National 2, was the only offensive signing made so far. Starting midfielder Traore was their other great loss over the summer but Concarneau have troubles finding a reliable substitute. Due to the little budget they have to live on. they find it difficult to attract experienced players, which are highly needed if they plan to fight for survival. If anything else, they managed to retain starting full-backs Georgen and Sans while just-arrived Wahib should only act as back-up. Concarneau have a very thin squad and cannot compete at Ligue 2 level yet. Moreover, since their own Stadium is facing renovation they will have to play their home games in Lorient, Brest and Guingamp respectively.

Target

At the moment, Concarneau are the main candidates for relegation.
