A stable Championship club for nearly a decade, Barnsley have become a bit of a yo-yo club over the recent years, with their relegation at the end of the 2017/18 season being their second relegation to the Championship in four seasons. Best-placed out of the sides that were relegated to League One, the Tykes played some decent football during the majority of the previous season, but their inability to convert their chances proved to be their undoing. Unsurprisingly, the club opted to act following the relegation, as they parted ways with manager Jose Morais and opted to make another foreign appointment, with German manager Daniel Stendell being their new boss. Stendel has only one year of previous managerial experience, having been in charge of Hannover during the 2016-17 season. Barnsley have seen a lot of players leave them during the summer, with the likes of Adam Hammill, Matt Mills and Nick Townsend being among the key players to have left. They have made only one signing so far in Kenny Dougall, while also face the prospect of losing striker Tom Bradshaw, who is reportedly wanted by several Championship sides. While their lack of summer transfer activity might seem worrying, it needs to be noted that Stendel has a rather strong squad at his disposal, with several players in the squad being proven Championship quality, and the majority of them being good enough to start for most League One sides. Of course, there will be question marks regarding the Tykes with a manager unproven in England in charge, but they will definitely be looking for a swift return to the second tier.
