Doncaster entered the previous season as a side returning to League One after one year in the fourth tier and their main goal was to stay up. They had no trouble achieving this goal, but still left their fans slightly frustrated, with their inconsistency leaving their supporters with the feeling that the squad was capable of more than it achieved. The Vikings have had a rather busy summer, with the biggest piece of news surrounding them being that Darren Ferguson is no longer in charge, having resigned just after the end of the previous season following discussions with the board. Former Peterborough manager Grant McCann is the new man in charge and has it all to prove after underperforming with his previous club, where he failed to deliver the play-off place that was expected of him. The Rovers have gotten rid of a lot of dead wood over the summer, but also lost three players who featured heavily in Jordan Houghton, Rodney Kongolo and Andy Boyle, who are all now back with their parent clubs. The list of players who signed is underwhelming, with none of the three new signings being a proven League One player. Given the way Ferguson's association with the club ended, it is well possible that the Rovers' former boss opted to resign after being informed that he would not be able to make the signings he wanted. Doncaster's playing squad seems to be at a level similar to last season's. However, they now have a less experienced manager in charge and their fans can hardly feel too confident going into the new campaign.

Target

Given their lack of summer spending, the Rovers will be pleased as long as they finish inside the midtable places and far away from danger.
