Just about limped into the Asian Champions League 2 for the forthcoming campaign by finishing fourth, a mere 2 points ahead of old foes True Bangkok United. Fortunately for them, Buriram United won the Thai FA Cup so their continental place passed to BG Pathum United, not that it pacified their fans after losing the Thai League Cup final against Port FC. Their defence suffered some big changes pre-season. Regular LB Warinthon Jamnongwat, experienced CB Riku Matsuda, and rough CB Nika Sandokhadze moved on, as did Takaki Ose, although the latter's importance at the club waned as last season's campaign wound on. A number of their rotation options also moved on. Fixing their defence ahead of this campaign is paramount if they intend on mounting a title challenge. Weirdly, it wasn't their biggest problem last season. They've seen fit to revisit Japan for a solution, this time luring Yanagi from Ikoma. Osmanovic, Nikolic, Quintana, and Pongsuwan also joined whilst the odd returning loanee could yet be considered. Most other positions weren't largely changed. They lost a couple of regulars in midfield but their importance was waning so their departures were somewhat predictable. They'd obviously been planning their incoming players for a while too, having announced Danish midfielder Andersen as their big signing for the 26-27 season despite the 25-26 season not having ended at the time. Midfield is the position they've invested the most money in. Andersen is one of them, but Belmonte, Edwards, Kaufmann, Verkamp all joined too as they seek to mount a more credible title challenge. Arguably their best recruit in midfield was James - he only left Buriram United as they had too many foreign alternatives to him. All of this means that the injured Chanathip Songkrasin should not be as missed at the start of the season as he would normally be. They also opted to bolster their attack with the likes of lively attacker Coffey, Matheus Costa, and João Magno. They're conscious that a more legitimate title challenge involves scoring more goals, hence a substantial investment in their foreign forwards. A title challenge is possible as they're not likely to take the Asian Champions League 2 especially seriously, at least not until the latter stages, meaning they can focus on Thai League One more than most of their contemporaries. However, they're likely to start slowly due to the changes they've made so it's unlikely they'll actually win it.
