Football Season Guide

There wasn’t much of an improvement from Dortmund last season, they were a little more consistent in the league than the previous campaign but never really made Bayern sweat for the title. The disappointment came in cup competitions where they crashed out early in the Champions League, Europa, and the DFB Cup. Marco Rose only lasted one season at the helm and has been replaced by Edin Terzic, the former assistant coach took charge on an interim basis in the second half of the 2020/21 season and brought on a positive change to the side, he even led them to a DFB Pokal triumph. Terzic knows the club and the staff well and should continue the trend of free-flowing, attacking football. Prolific marksman Erling Haaland left to join Manchester City in the summer and will be a big loss to the side, however, the Norwegian was injured a fair bit last season so the side got used to playing without him. Sebastian Haller is a good replacement from Ajax and has done well in this division previously with Frankfurt. Young talent Karim Ademyi has also joined so you would still expect Dortmund to score plenty. It has been defensively where Dortmund has struggled in recent seasons and this has been largely addressed in the transfer window. Niclas Sule is a solid addition while young centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck is only going to get better after his impressive campaign at Freiburg last season. Salih Ozkan from Koln is also another smart bit of business from Dortmund, the midfield at times can get exposed but, with the terrier-like Ozkan and Jude Bellingham in the centre, they should be more balanced. The only issues could be if injuries occur, especially in the full-back areas, last season Raphael Guerreiro, Thomas Meunier, and Matheu Morey missed a lot of football, and cover for them is limited.
