Coventry are coming from a horrid Championship campaign that saw them struggling at the wrong end of the table during the majority of the season, and were unable to stay up despite a significant improvement shown in the late stage of the campaign. Now, the Sky Blues are facing the never-easy task of trying to bounce back straight after getting relegated. The atmosphere around the club is one of cautious optimism, as the Sky Blues had a busy summer, keeping a lot of their key players, while making a number of interesting signings. The area of the team that has been letting the fans down for the best part of the last two seasons is certainly the attack, so it was perhaps unsurprising that Andy Thorn opted to ship out both Freddy Eastwood and Clive Platt, while the likes of Callum Ball and Stephen Elliott were signed to provide their manager with new options up front. There is little doubt that this area is the Sky Blues's biggest(and perhaps only) weakness going into the new season, as the Sky Blues have solid options both in defence and the middle. The side strengthened in these areas as well, highly rated Manchester United defender Reece Brown was signed on loan, the versatile Kevin Malaga signs from Nice, while Adam Barton and John Fleck will give their manager additional options in midfield. The one player Thorn probably would've wanted to keep but didn't manage to was Gael Bigrimana, who joined Newcastle, but the way in which the core of the squad was kept together is admirable, given that an exodus of players could've been expected, given the recent relegation.

Target

The Sky Blues will be looking to go straight back up at the first time of asking, and a top six finish is the minimum they will be looking for this season.
