Crewe are known as a club that lives and dies by their youth system and style of play, and this side is no different. Following the appointment of Steve Davis as their manager midway through the previous season, they went on a good run of results that allowed them to take place in the Play-Off, and they went on to clinch a place in League One with a 2-0 win over Cheltenham Town in the final. Over the summer, they lost two important players, striker Shaun Miller, who joined Sheffield United, and prodigy attacking midfielder Nick Powell, who signed for Manchester United for a fee of more than six million pounds. This money was not invested in new players, as Crewe embarked on a somewhat underwhelming summer shopping, bring in five players, out of which only Gregor Robertson and Abdul Osman have League One experience. Despite all this, there is burning optimism among their fans that the side can do well in the division, as Crewe are a side that likes to play football "the right way", and a passing approach usually brings solid results to sides newly promoted into League One, provided that they can execute it with any real quality. And this is exactly the biggest question mark over Crewe - their neat attacking football worked well in League Two, but they don't have a single player in their squad who is proven on League One level, and we have to wait and see if they can really be competitive in the division.

Target

Crewe's primary target will be to stay clear of danger and secure their survival. Their chances are extremely difficult to judge, given that their players haven't been tested at this level.
