The past season was a successful one for Cremonese, who achieved promotion back to the Serie A through the playoffs after their last unlucky campaign in the top flight of Italian football in 2022/2023. Having started the season slowly, they first made the top 4 in the 9th week, Cremonese had a rather regular campaign and never fell lower than the top 5 again. Thus, they finished in the 4th place, 15 points away from the top 2 and direct promotion, and then defeated Juve Stabia and Spezia in the promotion playoffs. Coach Giovanni Stroppa, who led them for most of the campaign, except for 5 games under Eugenio Corini, was not deemed right since his previous Serie A experiences were all disastrous, and was let go, with salvation-master Davide Nicola taking over. They were very active in the transfer campaign as they tried to inject some experience into a young squad. The goalkeeping department was utterly renewed since Starting Fulignati was loaned out to Empoli while his back-ups also left. Audero arrived from Como and is set to become the new starter. Nava, arriving from Milan, and Saro, who is recovering from injury, will battle for a place on the bench, while Silvestri is the new back-up. At the back, starting centre-backs Antov and Ravanelli left for Monza and Baschirotto, arriving from Lecce, will be the new leader of a defence which needs more strengthening. At the moment, Pezzella, naturally a left-back, could be adapted to the role, if needed, after a positive experience at Empoli but could also be considered instead of starting left-back Azzi, also gone to Monza. Versatile full-back Terracciano could also be considered. The midfield looks the area where they mostly lack experience. For this reason, they hired Grassi, also coming from Empoli, but they need more new signings as the likes of Castagnetti, Collocolo or Vandeputte are non-entities at this level. The attack is also in need of strengthening since Vazquez is now 35 and talented Nasti, together with Bonazzoli and De Luca simply have not enough goals in their legs.

Target

Will fight for their life, provided they manage to add more quality to the squad soon.
