After an expectedly difficult first season without Lionel Messi, Barcelona have put together an incredible summer of spending. They have sold off future assets to fund current spending and have built a strong squad capable of competing on all fronts. By bringing in top talents like Jules Kounde and Robert Lewandowski, among others, Barcelona believe they are back and they trust Xavi to put it all together, after he took over from Ronaldo Koeman halfway through last season to steer the team to second place. Now, Xavi has had a full summer with his team to try to install his style of football and he’ll look to build on the successes of last season, such as the 4-0 Clasico win away at Real Madrid. With so many options to choose from, especially in attack where he has Ansu Fati, Ousmane Dembele, Ferran Torres, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Lewandowski, Raphina and more, there is reason to feel confident about Barcelona. They needed to improve their defence and the arrival of Kounde should help with that, so Barcelona might well and truly be back.

Target

Win the league title. The main objective for Barcelona is to win the league title. They’ll of course try to win in every tournament they enter, but the league will be the focus in the first year of this new project. They were 13 points behind Real Madrid in LaLiga last year, but they’ve improved a lot. We’ll soon see if they’re improved enough to completely close that gap.
