Having just been promoted, Real Mallorca then achieved their 2021/22 objective, which was to avoid relegation. By doing so, this has ended what was a six-year run of playing in a different division every year. For the club as a whole, this is such good news. By finally spending consecutive seasons at the same level, their squad planning is made so much easier. Their main objective in this summer’s transfer window was to keep the loan players who served them well last term and they’ve done this, retaining Pablo Maffeo, Rodrigo Battaglia and Vedat Muriqi. Elsewhere, their main business has been to replace those who have departed, such as signing Predrag Rajkovic to be the new goalkeeper. Overall, then, the Real Mallorca squad will be of a similar level to last year’s. The coach is Javier Aguirre, the veteran coach who came in towards the end of last season to steer the team to safety. He’ll now have a pre-season with this team and that should stand them in good stead. Under Aguirre, Real Mallorca’s defence improved a lot. But, they still need to get better in attack. Keeping Muriqi will help with that, but they still need to create chances for their talisman. Another aspect to look out for this season is if Real Mallorca’s home form improves. They’re doing work at the stadium to remove the athletics track and bringing the fans closer could give them an intimidating atmosphere to go with the existing advantage of being on an island, which means every single visiting team faces a long trip.

Target

Survival. After six years of always moving division, Real Mallorca are trying to lose the yo-yo team tag and consolidate their position in Spain’s top division. That’s the only goal for this season.
