At his first season as Fiorentina owner, Rocco Commisso would have expected more from his boys than a top 10 finish but he must be happy for the way things actually went. In fact, after a poor first part of the campaign with coach Vincenzo Montella at the helm, they looked stuttering also with his replacement, Giuseppe Iachini. However, the latter eventually managed to turn things around and his side became one of the most solid defensively, especially since the re-start of the campaign after the Covid-19 break. At first, Iachini seemed about to be sacked at the end of the season but Commisso eventually changed his mind and confirmed the seasoned coach also for the new campaign. The summer was not particularly active for Fiorentina in terms of departures. In fact, they only let Ghezzal return to his parent club, after a season where he provided mixed performances as a winger or an inside midfielder. On the other hand, they opened the doors to Amrabat, who had already been signed before the end of the past campaign by Hellas Verona: he is a box-to-box midfielder that was highly missed by Fiorentina and will thus increase the quality and quantity in that department. And Bonaventura, a precious jolly for their midfield. No other players were signed thus far but they have a huge group of boys returning home from loans elsewhere. Among them, not many seem likely staying for good, maybe left-back Biraghi if he does not return to Inter. However, luckily enough, they did not lose any of their stars yet, in centre-backs Milenkovic and Pezzella, surprising midfielder Castrovilli and, most of all, winger/forward Chiesa, whose past season was a fairly inconsistent one although he managed to score 10 goals and serve 9 assists anyway. And Ribery will also stay on, hoping to have less injury issues. Fiorentina are still in the market and are looking for one more centre-back, flank players, more midfielders and, above all, a prolific forward, as the likes of Kouame, Cutrone and Vlahovic scored 11 goals and served 5 assists altogether, 1 goal every 240 minutes that is.
