The past campaign will be seen by Lazio as a missed opportunity. In fact, for the first time in 20 years they found themselves fighting for the Scudetto but they eventually collapsed after resumption of the campaign following the Covid-19 break. To tell the truth, we cannot say what might have happened, had the season ended regularly, but a bitter taste legitimately remains in the Eagles’ mouths, even though they qualified for the Champions League again after 12 years. The attack certainly was Lazio's main strength last season, with Golden Boot winner Immobile and leading assist-man Luis Alberto putting together 42 goals and 24 assists overall, but it was also the department which faltered the most in the last third of the campaign, as tiredness, both mental and physical, took its toll. Thus, logically confirmed coach Inzaghi was provided with a new forward, Muriqi, coming from Fenerbahce and expected to provide depth up-front when needed. Caicedo, despite his 9 goals and 5 assists could be sacrificed. Seasoned Reina arrived as a free agent and he should represent an experienced back-up for Strakosha in goal, especially considering their European campaign. Moreover, central midfielder Escalante, who arrived as a free agent too, should be asked to replace the likes of Leiva, when the latter is missing, something which happened quite frequently last season, because of injuries. At the moment, no relevant players have left, and this is a sign that the management are hoping for another season among the top Italian sides. Several players returned from loans elsewhere but not many are likely to be earning themselves significant playing time. Lazio are still trying to build depth in the squad, and players are especially needed at the back, on the flanks – where Fares is about to be signed from SPAL – and in the midfield, both defensively and offensively.

Target

Lazio aim to repeat the wonders displayed last season but sometimes miracles only happen once. However, they should be fighting for a top 4 finish.
