Forfar were very close to immediate return to League One last season, finished the regular campaign in 2nd place, but in the end one bad game in the play-offs saw them failing to do so. The most important departure of the summer was that of right-back Meechan, but in talented Nditi quality replacement was quickly signed. Veterans Steven and Grant Anderson also left. The two top goalscorers McCluskey and Aitken (21 goals between them) remain though. Also star playmaker Slater staying put. With the addition of several more attacking players to the ranks in the summer (Armour, Keating and Jack) Forfar are expected to be scoring with ease this season. Second-year coach Irvine seems set on using 2 forwards too, which should help the scoring record. Likely formation set to be used most often is 4-4-2. There is nice mixture of youth and experience in the squad. The half a dozen veterans are expected to be very useful for the development of the half a dozen talented players in their early 20s. The main strength of Forfar this season is expected to be their attack with lots of depth and quality in the forward positions. Subsequently their main weakness is shaping to be the defence. Not enough numbers for the back positions, combined with the departure of 2 important defenders from last season raises question marks. Forfar had shaky defensive record in 2021/22 anyway and hard to see how they could improve much on that.

Target

Return to League One is the goal. Have the squad and the quality to be fighting for another top 4 finish.
