Getafe were the surprise story of 2025/26 in La Liga, recording their third-highest ever finish to qualify for Europe despite operating with one of the league's smallest squads. They did so by being solid, with their 38 goals conceded being the third-lowest behind Real Madrid and Barcelona, and their 32 goals scored being the second-lowest. Their average match saw only 1.8 goals per game, lower than any other side. Despite that, this season's team will look quite different. Coach Jose Bordalas was convinced to continue by president Angel Torres, but transfer business has not excited Getafe fans. Mauro Arambarri and Luis Milla have both left after forming the heart of the team last year, and that strain will now go to former loanees Ramon Terrats and Mario Martin, who have both joined permanently. A major blow arrived in the penultimate pre-season friendly as Chrisantus Uche, returning from a failed loan spell at Crystal Palace, tore his ACL against Monaco. That's a major blow to a Getafe side who were ready to rely on his physicality in attack. Instead, there will be a lot of eyes on Martin Satriano, who ended the season as top scorer despite only arriving on loan in January. The challenge of playing in the Conference League could stretch an already thin Getafe squad too far to replicate their success of last season, but Bordalas has developed a reputation for surprising everyone by getting the most out of his players.
