After two seasons in a row without a trophy, Real Madrid have acted fast to bring in a proven winner with the return of former coach Jose Mourinho and a host of signings following the club's presidential elections which saw Florentino Perez re-elected. Last season's chaos saw Xabi Alonso sacked mid-season and replaced by Alvaro Arbeloa, with a bright start to the campaign ending in chaos and dressing room bust-ups. Many of those players continue in the squad to this day, albeit with tensions calmed by the summer break. Real Madrid have strengthened this summer, bringing in quality in defence with Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries all arriving and adding elite experience to a back four which was injury-hit and unsettled last season. Mourinho's expertise should also help to strengthen in that area. The question mark remains over how Real Madrid will get on should the goals dry up from Kylian Mbappé. The league's top scorer for the last two seasons scored 1 in every 3 Real Madrid goals in 2025/26, and neither Endrick nor Carlos Espi are even close to his level as back-up.
