Last season was less exiting for Lazio who seldom managed to repeat the Scudetto challenging wonders displayed in the previous campaign. They finished 6th and had to content themselves with qualification for the Europa League. Even more surprising was the way coach Simone Inzaghi left after 5 successful years in charge. While he was about to sign a new deal with the club, Inzaghi suddenly changed his mind and in the dead of the night signed for Inter. Quirky President Lotito kept his cool and signed Marcello Sarri who had been out of work since his Juventus sacking. The feeling is that his style of football is very similar to that of Inzaghi. Long time servants like Lulic and Parolo have been offloaded. The likes of Pereira, Musacchio and Hoedt were all let go without many regrets. More players could be leaving during the summer, potentially some stars too. Luis Alberto has clearly expressed his wish to leave while Correa is being courted by his former coach Inzaghi at Inter. In terms of new signings, Lazio offered their new coach an experienced left-back who knows him well in Hysaj. They also hired Felipe Anderson, once the supporters' pet, who is going to become a protagonist in the new 4-3-3 formation adopted by Sarri. Other than that, Lazio saw the return from loan of an impressive group of players, especially coming from neo-promoted Salernitana, once Lotito's second club. Knowing Sarri, it is not impossible that one or two of them could end up increasing the depth in the squad, the team's main issue over the past years. Lazio are still looking for a central midfielder and for back-up strikers and wingers.

Target

Depending on how well the players adapt to Sarri's football and how many stars eventually quit the club, Lazio could be fighting for a top 6 finish again.
