Having dropped to Serie B in 2015-2016, Salernitana had been restricted to a series of survival campaigns in the 2nd tier. It therefore came as a surprise when they achieved promotion to Serie A in second place. They were far from spectacular, they had just the 9th-best attack of the league, but were solid at the back with the second-best defence. They were deadly when needed. Coach Fabrizio Castori won his second promotion to Serie A after making the grade with Carpi in the mid-2010s. The seasoned gaffer was confirmed at the helm of the team for the new season: this the case even though his only previous Serie A experience saw his team relegated at the end of the campaign. Salernitana lost a great number of players over the summer as most of them had to return to their parent clubs (Lazio mostly) at the end of their loan periods. Among them, centre-back Casasola and key striker Tutino are the ones who will be missed the most. There has been a large influx of players mostly on loan again. A few of them are set to become protagonists this season: centre-back Strandberg could make it straight into the back 3 while Ruggeri and Zortea, both from Atalanta, could feature on the flanks with experienced Obi earning himself a place in the middle of the park. Bonazzoli could be Tutino's replacement up-front. Salernitana are still on the hunt for players in all departments in order to fill the squad with much needed Serie A experience and quality.

Target

Salernitana will have to fight against relegation: at the moment they lack the quality needed for survival.
