A solid start to last season was followed by a 26-game unbeaten league run as Arsenal faltered and Manchester City imploded, with Liverpool clinching a well-earned title. The Reds boasted the finest attack with 86 goals scored, while an extraordinary Mohamed Salah registered league highs in both goals (29) and assists (18). Despite winning the league rather comfortably, Liverpool haven’t rested on their laurels and invested quite heavily this summer. First-choice players Luis Díaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold may have departed, but Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitiké, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong have joined the team - and they are all expected to be starters this season. Yet, some tragic news came to send shockwaves through the club, as starting striker Diogo Jota passed away following a car accident, something that has already taken its toll emotionally on his teammates. Meanwhile, the Reds are expected to further strengthen their attack and defence. Liverpool have strength in each position, boasting some of the best players in the league in Alisson, Virgil Van Dijk, Wirtz and Salah. They have already improved the squad compared to last season and could further beef up their team. It remains to be seen how much Jota’s death is going to affect the team and whether Arne Slot will find ways to help his new signings quickly adapt to the new surroundings. Depth upfront and at centre-back remains a concern, but they should be expected to find answers ahead of a demanding campaign.

Target

Back-to-back league trophies for the first time in the modern Premier League era. Liverpool should be considered favourites to go all the way.
