Spurs may have ended a 17-year silverware drought by winning the Europa League, but their 2024/25 Premier League campaign was nothing short of disastrous. Hit by numerous injuries throughout the season, Ange Postecoglou’s side recorded an embarrassing 22 losses, finished 17th in the table and collected only 38 points, their lowest return in a single term. Despite their triumph in Europe, Postecoglou parted ways with the club, who brought in coach Thomas Frank from Brentford. No first-choice player has departed a fairly young and talented Spurs, who have signed a skilful but inconsistent Mohammed Kudus and a solid João Palhinha for the time being. Frank might just be the perfect fit for Tottenham’s bench, as he enjoys working with young players and has been able to stick to his preferred 4-2-3-1 – a formation used by Postecoglou last term. The team were looking solid at the back in the preseason before the 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich. Yet, they were unlucky again, as James Maddison has suffered a serious injury. Palhinha has joined on loan to beef up an already talented midfield, which has the potential to be one of the best in the league if players stay fit and healthy. In fact, injuries have been Spurs’ main weakness over the last months, as Postecoglou never had the chance to choose from a fully-fit squad last season.

Target

Spurs boast the squad to compete for a European spot. It remains to be seen whether Frank has what it takes to help them bounce back from adversity.
