There is plenty of optimism around Millwall heading into the new season after a promising conclusion to the previous campaign. Club legend Neil Harris saved the club from relegation in 2024 but voluntarily ended his second stint as manager before the end of the year. Alex Neil wasn’t initially a particularly popular successor amongst the Lions’ fanbase but the Scotsman eventually won them over, after guiding the club to an 8th place finish and just missing out on the play-offs on the final day of the season. Millwall have quality throughout the squad. Japhet Tanganga is a Premier League level defender and forms one of the best centre-back pairings in the Championship alongside Jake Cooper. Together they helped Lukas Jensen have the fourth best clean sheet percentage in the league. Exciting youngsters like Femi Azeez, Aidomo Emakhu Mihailo Ivanovic and Camiel Neghli all showed glimpses of their potential. Ivanovic and Josh Coburn are two proper centre-forwards who operate well together in a traditional 4-4-2 system. Coburn making his loan spell from Middlesbrough into a permanent deal may be the most important business of the transfer window so far. The Lions have lost a few experienced campaigners like captain Shaun Hutchinson, George Saville, George Honeyman, Murray Wallace and Duncan Watmore but Alfie Doughty and Massimo Luongo arrive with plenty of expertise at this level.

Target

If the Lions can keep most of their best players, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be pushing for a play-off spot.
