Newport County enjoyed another successful season under manager Michael Flynn, albeit one which ultimately ended in disappointment with defeat in the play-off final at Wembley. Flynn has overachieved from the moment he was handed the job in March 2017 and it is no surprise to see him linked with the managerial vacancy at Swansea City this summer. The Exiles will be delighted he remains at Rodney Parade and they will be hoping he can lead them to promotion this time around. He has suffered a couple of blow with goalkeeper Joe Day and wing-back Dan Butler making moves to clubs in higher divisions. They were both standout performers and will take some replacing. Flynn looks to have made a shrewd acquisition in goalkeeper Tom King from Millwall whilst also making several additions in defence. He will be pleased to have held on to a potent strike force in Jamille Matt and Padraig Amond but will need to them to stay fit as they otherwise look a little short in attack. Flynn has brought stability to the fan-owned club and the financial rewards of the success he has achieved on the pitch has enabled him room to manoeuvre in the transfer market. A couple of additions in August could make all the difference as they look to reach League 1.
