They finished as runners-up behind Xherdan Shaqiri FC last season but played well in general. Their CB issues with availability fused with their lack of depth burnt them out in the end but it was a valiant effort, and would ordinarily have been enough to see them optimistic about yet another title challenge this time around. The reality is a little different though. Although they have secured most of their transfer targets they have also made significant losses. Morandi was a great signing on a free transfer to bolster their attacking midfield stocks, for example. However, Jallow isn't as good nor as experienced as the departed Kutesa on the wing, and it's hard to envision Mraz being the powerhouse that Crivelli was up front either. Even if they do prove to be astute signings, they're still lacking in depth in a campaign when they're expecting to play in Europe. It could be argued that they've not lost anything of note with Victory, Nonge, and Ndoye moving on but I disagree; they lose depth. They sold a number of academy players pre-season too. I'm sure Ouattara and co. will continue to contribute positively to the team but are they ready for 20-30 games per season? Unlikely. Therefore, depth is likely to be the biggest enemy of Servette once again. They've improved their CB situation by acquiring Bronn to replace Adams but now have a new problem - RB. Tsunemoto moved on and they're yet to identity a replacement unless they intend on playing CB Bronn there (which he has before but it's not ideal) or making utility man Magnin play there permanently. Youngster Scandurra does not seem ready for this level yet so it's a worry. Like many clubs, Servette have taken risks pre-season. None of their signings look overly concerning but compared to who they've lost, they're bigger gambles than most have taken. Their attack looks rather lightweight this season, and it's most likely going to cost them. They'll still make the top four but a title challenge does not appear to be forthcoming without significant arrivals.
