A more than lucky escape from the drop to K2 is how to best summarise their 2023 season. A leaky defence was a problem throughout including a record setting 7-2 defeat at FC Seoul. An extra time win in the playoff against Busan was heartbreaking for their opponents who had led for most of the tie. Managerial change and massive turnover in the squad. New additions of Kyung-won Kwon and Sang-yun Kang look favourable but the loss of Yeong-jae Lee will be hard to replace. Squad looks a bit light in certain positions and relying on new foreign signings to hit the ground running. Unclear how the team will do this season with transfer rumours persisting on star player Seung-woo Lee and new coach who has no experience coaching in the league. Turnover of squad took time to form and jury will be out if the manager can bring things together in time. Some exceptional talent in the team including Bit-garam Yun, Kyung-won Kwon and Seung-woo Lee, all former national team players. The team have talented U22 Sang-yun Kang now so should solve the U22 problems that have existed at the club for the past few seasons. Big turnover of players and new coach with the rumours of Lee possibly leaving means the club have a lot going on. Fixing the defence will be the priority for the former Korean U20 national team coach as well as implementing his style and getting the foreign players used to the league.

Target

Survival will be their best hope. Aim for 9th to avoid another playoff.
