Watford

Last updated: Sat 24 August 2019 08:33
In Brief

Pressure on after back-to-back defeats without scoring. Captain Deeney sidelined. Sarr and Penaranda lack fitness. Doucoure and Pereyra fresh concerns.

Looking Back

Watford can’t be happy after opening campaign with back-to-back defeats. Last weekend edged 0:1 on visit to Everton and yet to score.

Defending has been very poor so far, with full-backs badly exposed time after time in both rounds.

Looking Ahead

Coach Gracia mulling possible changes at the back as new main centre-back Dawson very shaky, plus both full-backs underperforming.

Welbeck made his Watford debut off bench last weekend and for now he is seen as impact substitute.

Sarr and Penaranda lack fitness, while captain Deeney needed minor knee surgery and won't feature until September.

Both Doucoure and Pereyra have picked up injuries in training and after both missed the Friday training session it seems unlikely that even if involved they can start.

Points of Interest

Nothing between sides in their last 10 meetings – 4 wins each and 2 draws.

West Ham United

In Brief

Put first point on the board last weekend, now searching for first win. Silva and Reid only absentees. Noble pretty much fit and ready to return. Haller and Anderson fully fit.

Looking Back

West Ham able to save 1:1 draw on visit to Brighton, but display once again wasn’t great. Constantly ran in traffic going forward, with too many solo runs made.

Despite slow start it must be said that Fornals had positive full debut last weekend and he definitely looked like a playmaker capable of making the difference.

Looking Ahead

Coach Pellegrini have stars Haller and Anderson available, both not risked vs. Brighton due to knocks, plus captain Noble back in team training and expected to make group too. Reid still missing due to lack of fitness.

Balbuena left on bench last weekend, but Ogbonna not very convincing either and another change to back 4 possible.

Points of Interest

Antonio has been under the spotlights in this fixture in recent years – he has scored 3 goals in last 6 matches vs. Watford, but also has picked up 1 red and 3 yellow cards.
