Brighton and Hove Albion

Last updated: Sat 14 September 2019 08:17
In Brief

Back-to-back defeats without scoring. Trimmed forward options on deadline day. Schelotto and Izquierdo long-term absentees. Trossard and Bissouma also ruled out. Balogun doubtful.

Looking Back

Brighton showed bravery, or as many labelled it ‘stupidity’, on visit to Man City when Seagulls decided to attack in numbers. In the end City won 4:0, but at least Brighton didn’t sit back and made it for interesting contest.

Coach Potter decided to allow Locadia and Andone to leave late in transfer window, which limits seriously his attacking options.

Looking Ahead

Coach Potter surprised many by letting go of 2 of his more potent strikers and it seems that new arrival Maupay will be the main man up front with 36-year-old Murray and 19-year-old Connolly the only alternatives.

Trossard sustained serious-looking injury while playing for Belgium and he will be absent for some time. From 3 previously injured players Bissouma only one back in training, but he lacks fitness and won't be risked. Balogun also returned injured from international duty and could miss.

Points of Interest

Scored just 1 goal in 4 Premier League clashes between sides. Last season lost both games vs. Burnley, while year earlier identical 0:0 draws registered home and away.

Burnley

Last updated: Sat 14 September 2019 08:18
In Brief

On four-game winless run. Drinkwater sidelined. McNeil and Barnes slight doubts. Brady passed fit. Gudmundsson doubtful.

Looking Back

Burnley haven’t won since season-opener. Single point from last 3 rounds in the league and shameful home defeat in League Cup against team playing 2 divisions below them.

As it was expected the introduction of VAR makes it much harder for Clarets to keep clean sheets and they conceded 2 goals or more in 3 of last 4 games. Robust and hard tackles no longer something the centre-backs could get away with.

Looking Ahead

Coach Dyche with issues in wide areas as all of Barnes, McNeil, Brady and Gudmundsson doubtful. Good news came from press conference with first 3 likely cleared to play this weekend, while Gudmundsson's chances rated as 50/50.

Drinkwater out for several weeks after being injured during fight at nightclub. Burnley consider disciplinary actions too.

Points of Interest

Barnes starting season hot – 4 goals in 4 rounds.
