Northampton Town

Last updated: Sat 25 January 2020 11:50
In Brief

Alan McCormack unlikely to be risked; Scott Wharton suspended; Shaun McWilliams and Harry Smith sidelined.

Looking Back

Northampton Town have to settle for a point after conceding a late equaliser to draw 1-1 with Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road in midweek.

Manager Keith Curle made two changes to his starting line-up with Michael Harriman and Matty Warburton handed recalls to the side.

They were preferred to Andy Williams and Sam Hoskins, who both dropped to the bench.

Teenager Ethan Johnston was named in the squad for the first time in his career.

Looking Ahead

Curle has been dealt a blow with Scott Wharton serving the first of a three-match ban following his midweek dismissal.

He is unlikely to take a risk on key man Alan McCormack, who has missed the last month with a knee injury.

Shaun McWilliams (knee) and Harry Smith (knee) won't be fit again until March.

Points of Interest

It will be the first competitive meeting since the 1966/67 season. Northampton Town haven't won any of the ten meetings between two sides.

In Brief

Marriott and Shinnie should be back fit. Bielik is sidelined alongside Evans, Anya and Shinnie.

Looking Back

Maintained the good run of form with a narrow 1:0 win over Hull in the league last weekend. It was a pretty poor game but the Rams edged it and showed good defensive discipline.

Secured a fine 1:0 win away at Oremeir League side Crystal Palace to reach this stage of the FA Cup.

Looking Ahead

Head to Northampton on Friday in what seems like a pretty winnable tie as the team lead by Philip Cocu seeks to get further in the competition.

There will be changes ahead of an upcoming game in the league in midweek but the good news for the manager is that he is set to welcome back two players in Jack Marriott an Graeme Shinnie, who have resumed training this week. Shinnie is more of a doubt because of sickness.

Ikechi Anay, George Evans and Mason Bennett remain out. Krystian Bielik remains sidelined for the long term.
