Game Report

Highlights

Leandro Trossard starred on his home debut for Brighton as they fought back to secure a more than deserved point against West Ham. Javier Hernandez gave the Hammers the lead against the run of play but that was quickly cancelled out by Trossard's fine strike.

Detail

Confident start to the game from Brighton who were a big threat on set-pieces. Dan Burn should have scored with a free header early on.

Burn caused problems on a free-kick again and thought he'd set up a goal for Trossard who fired in a volley. VAR was used to spot that Burn was offside from the initial delivery though.

West Ham had been on the backfoot for more than an hour but it was the predatory instincts of Hernandez that gave them the lead. The Mexican stayed just onside to latch onto Manuel Lanzini's through-ball and score.

The response was instant from a determined home side. Perseverance paid off for Trossard who raced onto a loose ball on the edge of the box and fired in an excellent strike.

Both sides could have won it towards the end but it was the Seagulls who spurned the best chance. Neal Maupay skied over the bar from point-blank range.

Summary

Brighton were the better side on the day and may well be disappointed with just a point but Trossard's performance offers them great encouragement for the season. West Ham rode their luck to claim a battling point.
