Game Report

Highlights

VAR played a central role between these two clubs again as Gabriel Jesus had a stoppage-time winner cancelled out for Manchester City. Tottenham came from behind twice to get back to 2-2 and were grateful to the technology again for denying the champions.

Detail

Manchester City typically dominated possession in the early stages of the game and eventually turned that into a goal. Kevin De Bruyne's wonderful cross was headed in by Raheem Sterling.

The champions got complacent immediately after the goal and were punished. Erik Lamela was allowed to drift into space and let fly with a shot which caught Ederson out of position.

City regained control and it was the brilliance of De Bruyne again which saw them go back in front. The Belgian this time whipped a low cross into the near-post which Sergio Aguero converted.

Tottenham were lucky to stay in the game at times in the second half - with Hugo Llrois making some important saves.

Mauricio Pochettino's first substitution paid immediate dividends. Lucas Moura glanced in Lamela's corner within seconds of coming on.

Manchester City laid siege on the visiting goal in the closing stages and thought they'd finally got their winner when Jesus fired in. Just like in the Champions League last season, VAR denied them - for a contentious hand-ball against Aymeric Laporte.

Summary

Manchester City were left frustrated by VAR again but they can look at themselves for not putting this game to bed earlier and conceding avoidable goals. Tottenham were dominated for long periods but clinical with their chances.
