Game Report

Highlights

Sevilla won 3-1 away at Rennes, a match in which the French side were the better side for large stretches. After a good start from Rennes, Jules Kounde and Youssef En-Nesyri scored towards the end of the first half for a 2-0 half time lead. En-Nesyri added another late on, before Georginio Rutter netted a consolation goal for Rennes from the penalty spot.

Detail

Rennes started this game better. Sevilla looked slow and lacked intensity, whereas Rennes looked dangerous and Mbaye Niang hit the post early on.

Against the run of play, Sevilla took the lead when Kounde launched an awkward shot from the edge of the area and it went right in.

That goal shifted the momentum from Rennes to Sevilla. Oliver Torres really started to get involved and he set up En-Nesyri for another Sevilla goal before half time.

With nothing really to play for, the second half was largely dull. Rennes had possession and created more chances than Sevilla did, but not much happened.

In the final quarter of an hour, Rennes stepped it up after Julien Stephan made a serious of substitutions and they really tested Bono then, who did well to keep Sevilla's lead intact.

Sevilla then scored another against the run of play, again thanks to En-Nesyri, before a penalty on Eduardo Camavinga allowed Rutter to pull back a consolation goal for Rennes.

Summary

Rennes were actually the better side for most of this game, but Sevilla were more clinical. In the end, this result didn't matter. But, it was quite harsh on Rennes.
