Football Season Review

№8: FC Thun

Thun are coming from a turbulent season which saw them remain true of playing their trademark attacking-brand of football but paying the price for their open approach on numerous occasions and flirt with relegation as a consequence. The Oberlanders did not have any particularly good or bad runs during this season and were actually pretty erratic throughout the campaign. Memorably, they handed their regional rivals and eventual champions Young Boys two of the four league defeats they have suffered during the season, but have dropped numerous points in fixtures in which they played well. The injury situation did not help, with Matteo Tosetti, who ended the season as the player with most assists in the league, missing a large chunk of the autumn season with an injury, while Marc Schneider had to do without numerous players due to injuries in the second half of the season. Moreover, Simone Rapp, who was the league's top scorer at the point of leaving, was tempted away by Lausanne during the winter, and things really did not look good for Thun when they found themselves at the bottom of the table midway through the spring season. However, their sporting director, when asked about Marc Schneider, made it clear that the manager's future was not even discussed by the board, and this fate was eventually rewarded, as Thun eventually managed to end the season with a decent run of results end secured their survival with three games left to play.
