Barnsley were disappointing last season, finishing rock bottom in the Championship and eventually being relegated to League One. The South Yorkshire club also have a new manager in place in the form of Duff. As expected, the Tykes have experienced a high turnover of players with several key faces not wanting to drop down a division. Top scorer Woodrow has departed, while another key attacker Morris has gone. Losing defender Brittain and midfielder Gomes also hurts. The latter's loan deal ended. Signings have been made all over the field. Norwood comes in on a free from Ipswich Town, expected to fill the void left by Woodrow. Centre-backs Cundy and McCarthy will be expected to contribute immediately, too. Youngsters Searle and Connell come with plenty of potential, though it's unlikely we'll see these guys start regularly in the early days of the season. Barnsley have a pretty tricky start to the season in the way of fixtures, while their poor defensive line last season could rear its ugly head again. in terms of strengths, this squad has plenty of players who have performed at this level or higher. That experience could prove vital in the midst of a promotion battle.

Target

A playoff place. Barnsley have overachieved recently, though they've lost key faces so automatic promotion may be a big ask in a tough division.
