Plymouth Argyle probably overperformed last season, though they would have been disappointed to narrowly miss out on a playoff berth. Manager Steven Schumacher did a splendid job after the untimely departure of Ryan Lowe, though the Pilgrims have seen a high turnover of players in the transfer market. Losing Crichlow, Sessegnon and Garrick hurts their depth. Broom is another whose loan has ended, his midfield presence will be missed. To their credit, Plymouth have replaced their outgoing players well. Miller, Butcher, Whittaker and Mumba represent players who can come in and make an instant impact within the first-team fold. A lack of depth proved to be Plymouth's achilles heel in 2021/22. That problem still remains, while Schumacher's side also struggled for consistency for large stretches. That could come back to haunt them. In terms of strengths, Plymouth's starting line-up is as good as any in the division. Hardie, Houghton, Grant and Cooper are all high-level players who can go toe-to-toe with anyone else in their position in League One. Plymouth are a team full of potential. Don't be surprised to see them fighting it out at the top come the business end of 2022/23.

Target

A playoff outsider. With a good season, Plymouth Argyle could force their way into the top six, though they'd need a little luck.
