Turbulent last season saw them finish just outside the top 6. Early in the campaign looked great but once injuries hit the form collapsed. The bold all-or-nothing approach simply didn’t produce enough wins. No team had fewer than Roar’s 2 draws last season W8 L13. Had the 2nd best attack, only unbeaten Melbourne City scored more goals, but also the 3rd worst defence. Captain Yallop finished as runner-up in the Golden Boot race with her 12 goals. Young Grace Kuilamu (18) had her 1st impactful season as a senior and she did very well. It was a summer of many changes for the Queensland team. Parted ways with 13 players and replaced them with 10 new ones. Moving forward without the Freier sisters, 15 goals and 11 assists between them last season, will be hard. Experienced Popadinova also returned to Europe, which will likely mean Kuilamu becoming the main striker at her tender age (18). Added winger Bente Jansen to help and she will be vital on the flanks. Revamped the back line. The regulars that left were poor last season anyway. Hopes are the new arrivals can do better. Fast-paced, all-or-nothing approach is expected from Roar again. The manager preaches high pressing and aggressive tactics. Of course, this means Roar will be involved in plenty of goal thrillers, the big question is will they be able to come on top in enough of those to make the playoffs this time.
