Against all odds, Cesena's return to the Serie A, almost twenty years after their last participation to the top tier, caused some praise for the quality of the football produced and for a couple of interesting new faces, above all Parolo and Giaccherini. And, last but not least, for an unexpected safety obtained not at the very last second. The new campaign turns out to be more puzzlical: coach Ficcadenti, who disagreed with the club's aims, left and he was replaced by Giampaolo, coming from three negative experiences in a row, with Cagliari, Siena and Catania; too many players left and even more ones arrived. For sure, Eder, Mutu and Candreva should provide the offensive quality and the goals they sometimes missed in the past season. At the very same time, one cannot forget that the Romanian international spent the last couple of seasons being suspended or injured, thus causing a small question mark. Martinho and Guana should be valid replacements for Sammarco and Caserta in the middle of the park. Centre-back Rossi, from Bari, is quite likely to get a place in the starting eleven such as Comotto, who is going to be the new right-back. All the other new players are expected to earn some playing time during the season. Rennella, in particular, could turn out to be an important add-on for the attack. Giaccherini is rumoured to be about to quit: his would be a major loss. Especially if not properly replaced.

Target


The team aims at a quiet safety but they are likely to be struggling until the end of the season. A lot, possibly too much, will depend on Mutu's form and on coach Giampaolo's attitude, sometimes too cautious, which could cost him his job dear.
