Coritiba offered a very strong performance last year, and led Série B for most part of the season. However, a very poor ending (4 defeats in last 5 round) made it look like a weaker run from ‘Coxa’. Veteran striker Gamalho was back to his best form and was Série B’s top scorer with 16 goals (23 scored in all competitions). In 2022, ‘Coxa’ have been on a good form, reaching the State Championship’s final, defeating their arch-rivals Athlético on the semi-finals and currently sitting in pole position to win the competition after an away win in first leg against Série D team Maringá. Paraguayan coach Morinígo has been on the job since 2020, a very rare achievement in Brazilian football. The Paraguayan regularly uses a 4-2-1-3 with attacking-minded full-backs Alex Muralha will be the main option for goal, after the departure of iconic Wilson. Uruguayan Guillermo is a great addition for the centre of defence, forming a compact duo with Castan. Warley is a winger successfully adapted to right-full back; Biro is also a very attacking full-back on the left side. Andrey is a very important new signing for midfield, the ideal complement for the more defensive Willian Farias. Ahead of them, the experienced Robinho is the main man for the creation and important passes, but new signings Régis and Thonny Anderson are strong options too. Leo Gamalho continues scoring goals in 2022, but the most exciting talent in attack is the more mobile unit, but also prolific Igor Paixão. New signings Manga, Clayton, and Fabrício Daniel will be good options for the remaining position in attack; however, the favourite is the returning Neilton, should he quickly recover from a long injury picked in 2021.

Target

Coritiba will struggle to escape relegation, but they are at least better equipped than Goiás and Avaí in the return to top-flight.
