Back-to-back promotions brought Alverca to the top flight. Only a year after moving up from the third tier secured 2nd place in Liga Portugal 2 with an impressive record W17 D12 L5. Finished just a point behind champs Tondela. The entire squad was literally changed this summer. Only 4 players from the team that achieved promotion are still on the roster. Have 25 new arrivals. Also, a new head coach – Custodio. This is his first ever HC job. He spent his entire career so far at Braga, assistant coach of Braga B from 2022 till last spring. Considering that Alverca large relied on players with zero top-flight experience last season, most of them were at the team just 2 years ago in the third division, this major revamp was needed. The big star in attack last season was the Aussie striker Anthony Carter, 15 league goals. He was poached by Alverca’s parent club Santa Clara this off-season though. In a strange turn of events the feeder club Alverca and the main parent club Santa Clara will be competing in the same division this season. To avoid rule breaks Santa Clara took back all of their players that were doing so well at Alverca, which was the second main reason why the squad had to be rebuilt from scratch. The early rounds are expected to be difficult. The question is how fast the small and brand new roster will be able to build synchrony. There are many unknowns regarding the roster, the manager, his tactics and this makes Alverca one of the teams that need to be monitored closely.

Target

Even just staying out of the bottom 2 will be a good outcome.
