Between 2021 and 2025, Fiorentina established themselves as one of the top teams of Italian football, even reaching 2 Conference League finals. They had great ambitions for the past campaign and hired Stefano Pioli as their coach but this turned out to be a disaster. In fact, they did not win any of the initial 10 league games and Pioli was logically shown the door. Paolo Vanoli then took the reins of the team and they went winless until week 15. From that moment on, though, they became more solid and combative and, also thanks to some winter signings, they lifted themselves off the bottom place and got out of the relegation zone by the end of February, eventually closing the season in the 15th place, 8 points above the abyss. Fiorentina management hired Fabio Paratici as their sporting director last spring and his touch was visible over the summer. First of all, Fabio Grosso, coming from positive campaigns at Sassuolo, was charged with the team while Vanoli was let go. Then, they spent lavishly in order to revamp their ambitions. In terms of departures, they parted ways with centre-back Comuzzo, whose last season was disappointing after big promises, and, mostly, starting left-back Gosens, never capable of repeating the wonders displayed while at Atalanta. Viery could thus become a protagonist in the heart of the defence, with Dragusin on the bench, while youngster Valdepenas could prove his skills at left-back while Parisi recovers from injury. In the midfield, they loaned out back-up Fazzini, while they signed Brescianini permanently and acquired Atta, who did wonders at Udinese, and Oulai from Trabzonspor. They are both expected to make the XI, also considering that Fagioli may have to find himself a new club. Offensively, they let wingers Solomon and Harrison return to their parent clubs, while they only signed 18-year-old Mastantuono on loan from Real Madrid. Considering how inconsistent their strikers, Kean, Piccoli and Gudmundsson, were last season, they should also consider changes up-front.
