Relegated to the Serie B in the campaign 2023/2024, last season Frosinone managed to return to the top flight of Italian football at the second time of asking. They began their campaign almost perfectly, unbeaten in the initial 6 games, but then they lost to the 2 fellow promoted sides, Venezia and Monza. They restarted their march and made the top of the table come mid-December. Maintained the leadership until the end of January, when they lost to Venezia again, being leapfrogged by the Lagunari. They would not lose again and would close the season with 6 wins in the last 7 fixtures, but had to content themselves with a final second-place, one inch away from the leaders. Frosinone were strong offensively, they held the Serie B second-best attack with 76 goals scored, while they were solid defensively, with 34 goals conceded, 3 more than Venezia. 56-year-old coach Massimiliano Alvini, the architect of their promotion, was confirmed at the helm of the team, although he only had a short-lived Serie A experience with Cremonese, characterised by no wins in 18 games. Having achieved promotion with a rather young squad, Frosinone tried to inject some experience into it. In goal, Desplanches, coming from Palermo, is set to become Palmisani’s back-up. In the heart of the defence, centre-back Marchizza was let go to Vicenza and Akpoguma, coming from Hoffenheim, is going to become a protagonist, while Amey, on loan from Bologna, is good for the bench. The midfield is the area they strengthened the most as both Grillitsch and El Azzouzi could become first XI material with former starters Calò, Koutsoupias and Cichella - and Masini from Genoa - all set for the bench. Attacking midfielder Schmid, their main investment, is an interesting addition for the attack. Up-front, they managed to extend striker Raimondo’s loan from Bologna while winger Ghedjemis is also staying at the club and that is good news as they scored 26 goals and 4 assists last season. They will be joined by winger Zerbin from Napoli.
