Struggled badly all throughout 2019 only to barely survive relegation via the play-offs. All campaign blunt forward actions and major lack of goals were serious issues. The main change in off season was the appointment of new manager. Nanne Bergstrand is actually legend in Kalmar, he was in charge during the only title-winning campaign in the club’s history in 2012. The new boss immediately cleared the squad with 16 players leaving in the off season. Amongst them the 2 starting, but underperforming heavily in 2019, full-backs + retired veteran Rasmus Elm. Only 3 new players were signed to replace them, but the depth of the squad remains decent as prior this clean up the squad list was clogged up with way too many names. Kalmar seem likely to play with 2 up front under their new manager, but both Froling and Herrem need to be doing much better compared to last season. Bergstrand favours 3-5-2 shape, but he also uses 4-4-2, so he has flexibility to decide on his formation based on the opponents. Being effective down both flanks expected to be amongst the main strengths of the team, with the manager focusing on using as much as he could the wide players. He has depth and rotation options in those positions too. In order for the results to be better at least 4-5 of those regulars that underperformed badly in 2019 will need to do a lot more. Yet to be seen if simply giving them new manager will be enough.

Target

Improved table positon and possible top 10 finish in 2020 will be seen as move in the right direction. Have the squad to be aiming at comfortable mid-table existence.
