No one predicted Varberg BoIS would be anywhere near contention for an Allsvenskan place at the start of last season, but the rank outsiders started the season on fire and, although they slowly fell off the pace, they'd done enough to secure the second automatic promotion spot to reach the top flight for the first time in their history. They were absolutely flying in the early months of the season and spent 17 match weeks in first place. But they were always going to be pegged back eventually, although it didn't really matter in the end as they reached their goal with one point to spare. And the goal this season will be surviving in the top flight for the first time in history in whatever way is possible. No one will expect Varberg BoIS to do anything but try and avoid relegation this season, and they will have done well if they can avoid getting cut adrift. Because they have not got the firepower of most of their competitors and they will find the going tough. There's some exciting players that can shake up the top flight this season, but it would be unfair to expect too much of them as they find their feet at the top table.

Target

Survival would be a monumental achievement, but Varberg BoIS will be determined not to be startstruck. A brave relegation battle is on the cards, and the happy ending might not materialise. Prediction: 16th
