AIK seemed set for a strong 2022 after a 9-match unbeaten run in the first half of the season. The previous season they lost the title on goal difference to Malmo and expectation levels in Sweden’s capital were high. However, the second half of the season was inconsistent, and they slumped to 5th place with 3 defeats in their final 4 matches. Home form remained acceptable but nowhere near as formidable as previous seasons (W8 D4 L3). AIK have lost the experienced core of their team with Karlsson, Lustig and Larsson all retiring. Their attack also needs rebuilt with Bahoui and Stefanelli moving on. Ayari’s transfer to Brighton leaves another significant gap. Experienced signings Magashy and Faraj boost AIK’s attack after a good seasons at Varnamo and Degerfors in the Allsvenskan. Midfielder Jimmy Durmaz brings some pedigree along with Fischer. Several such as Tihi and Kabuye return from loan spells with an appetite to make an impact. A big season is expected from their experienced striker Guidetti. It’s another season of transition for AIK under new coach Andreas Brannstrom who hopes to bring some stability after Grzelak, Goitom and Wennberg all had spells in charge last season. They have lost great experience from their squad and not replaced it. Nothing but a title challenge will satisfy their fans.

Target

The title and nothing less will satisfy AIK fans.
