A relegation scare was avoided last season as steady form towards the end of the season saw Sirius only lose 1 of their final 7 matches. Inconsistency was a major problem and 1 win in 11 matches in mid-season had relegation alarm bells ringing. However, they pulled together when it mattered and finished in 11th place and 4 points above the relegation play-off spot. The recovery was not enough to save head coach Daniel Backstrom who was replaced by Christer Mattiasson. Starting goalkeeper Vaiho has returned to parent club Djurgardens. Experienced defenders Bjorkstrom and Larson have departed. Regular midfield starters Hellborg and Rogic have also left leaving a significant gap. A few fringe players have also moved on. Experienced goalkeeper Sveijer returns after a season out on loan. Olsson is also back to strengthen their defence after a season away on loan. Alsanati and Sjogrell step up to midfield after some solid experience in the Superettan. In attack Persson returns from a loan spell at Brage where he scored 6 goals in 26 appearances for the Superettan team. Winger Kaastrup is a late signing. The squad is padded out with several signings from the U19 team. Sirius have lost a lot of experience in defence and in their midfield and not replaced it. They are putting a lot of faith in young prospects for the 2023 season.

Target

A mid-table finish and avoiding a relegation scare.
