Could Degerfors retain their Allsvenskan status for a second season in 2022? The answer was yes – but only on goal difference as Varbergs finished 13th and entered the play-offs. Degerfors suffered a terrible start and seemed doomed at the midpoint of the season. However, they improved in the second half and an 11-match undefeated run to finish the season ensured their safety. Both of last season’s goalkeepers (Whiteman and Gal) have departed. Main striker Faraj has ended up at AIK, with attackers Bertilsson and Rajamohan also moving on. Central defender Lagerbielke who excelled in the latter stages also departs. Midfielder Krezic has also left for a spell in Ireland with Cork City. With 10 goals in 20 appearances for Sollentuna last season, Lindgren is given his chance in the top flight as is Gwargis who is on loan from Malmo. Centre-back Mammar has signed after some solid seasons in the Superettan. Goalkeeper Jonas Olsson has signed after 25 appearances for promoted Brommapojkarna last season with Rossbach as backup. Overall, it’s a rebuilding job for coach Tobias Solberg as they probably face another relegation battle. Most of all they need a striker who can reach double figures. However, their undefeated form at the end of last season gives them belief they can compete.
