Varnamo’s first ever top flight experience turned out to be a positive one. The history-makers turned 2022 into a good year. Signing Antonsson before the start of last season was crucial. His 20 goals, finished second on the goalscoring chart, were why Varnamo stayed out of trouble all campaign. In the end, 10th place with 6-point lead over the bottom 3 was far better than what many predicted for Varnamo’s first ever Allsvenskan season. As expected, Antonsson moved on in the winter. The team’s key playmaker and main assist-provider Magashy also caught the eye and left this winter. Centre-back Tihi had a strong last season too, but he is back with his parent club now. All these 3 departures seriously weaken Varnamo. Signed Engvall hoping that he will be the right fit up front. Only if the experienced forward manages to score 15-20 goals Varnamo will be able to stay out of trouble again. Wingers Bustos and Ademi also joined. This suggests that the 2021 Player of the Year Johansson could be used in a more central role this season in attempt to fill the void left by Magashy’s departure. Varnamo are expected to stick to the tactics and game plans that brought them success last year. They also should see much more from their mid-season signings Zeljkovic and Vilar. The latter will likely be the new starting centre-back with Tihi gone.

Target

Staying out of trouble is the only goal. Will be able to do so only if a reliable goal-provider emerges.
