Football Season Guide

Norrkoping had an expectedly difficult 2022. Slow start, only 4 wins in the first 13 rounds, saw coach Norling sacked in mid-July. All hopes of a top 5 finish were gone by mid summer and when eventually Glen Riddersholm was appointed from round 18 onwards his task was to start rebuilding for 2023 from early. Norrkoping had been planning their squad for this season pretty much since last September. However, they didn’t expect their most creative winger Levi to leave but he did so in the off-season. Also, 2 starting defenders Ekpolo and Wahlqvist departed. Ssewankambo returns to the club and he could fill one of the voids in defence. The team has no typical right-back in the ranks though. It seems midfielder Eid will be re-qualified to play in the role this season. Also, the only really classy signing so far this winter had been that of playmaker Hammershöy-Mistrati from Cluj. He’s expected to become an instant starter in another area where Norrkoping lack depth. With not many typical inner midfielders in the squad, weakened defensive line after 2 key departures and abandoned by their best assist-provider last term Levi Norrkoping’s prospects for the new season doesn’t look great. All that said Riddersholm has some very exciting teenagers in his ranks and he seems happy to try and develop them. All of Eriksson, Kalley, Lind and Gudjohnsen could potential have breakthrough seasons as they all are tipped to get plenty of chances.
