Despite failing to deliver a return to the Championship and having his side criticized on Twitter by club chairman Darragh MacAnthony, Darren Ferguson managed to survive the summer and will remain the manager of Peterborough going into the new season. Unsurprisingly, given the disappointing form his men displayed in the second half of the previous season, Ferguson opted to freshen up his squad over the summer and get rid of some of the players who underperformed. The list of players who left therefore includes Craig Alcock, Daniel Kearns, Danny Swanson and Mark Little, who were all regular starters during certain periods of the previous season, while skipper Tommy Rowe has also left, with Ferguson installing holding midfielder Jack Payne as the new club captain. When it comes to arrivals, Gabby Zakuani returns to the club after six months in Greece, Kenny McEvoy and Erhun Ozturner are two players who are unknown at League One level, while the marquee signing of Peterborough's summer transfer window is definitely winger Jon Taylor, who signs from Shrewsbury. Taylor is a tricky winger who delivered the goods for the Shrews in each of the last two seasons, and will be expected to provide the Posh with flair in wide areas, which is something they lacked so bad last season. All things considered, Peterborough seem to be neither particularly stronger nor weaker than last season, but Ferguson will know that his men underperformed in their previous campaign and that he will need to get them to play better football if he is to remain at the helm.
