Football Season Guide

Coventry won many admirers with the manner in which they played their football last season, with the Sky Blues' campaign and positive style being even more impressive when having in mind that they had to deal with huge financial problems, which caused them to start the season with a ten-point deduction and play their games at Northampton's Sixfields stadium. Unfortunately for the Sky Blues' fans, the club's financial woes did not go away during the summer, and pretty much all of Coventry's key players left them over the last two months, with the likes of Joe Murphy, Callum Wilson and Franck Moussa being particularly important players that the club failed to hold on to. Steven Pressley, who decided to stay at the helm despite all the problems surrounding the club, has been very active in the transfer market, trying to bring in as many reinforcements as possible. The list of arrivals does contain some players who are proven at League One level, such as Marcus Tudgay, Ryan Allsop, Reda Johnson, Shaun Miller and Jim O'Brien, but the overwhelming feeling surrounding the club is one of disappointment, as Coventry lost the core of their squad, and it would be all but a miracle for them to start the new campaign as if they did not have any changes during the summer. Moreover, Coventry have been in a decline in the second half of the calender year, with their problems starting following the departure of Leon Clarke to Wolverhampton, and this is another thing that seems to be going against them as the new season approaches. All in all, the Sky Blues definitely seem to be weaker than they were last season, but not all is bad, as they have some decent players in the squad and a very positive manager. Their goal will be to stay away from trouble, and they should just have enough quality in their ranks to achieve it.
