Peterborough are coming off yet another disappointing season, as the Posh entered the campaign with high hopes of making the play-offs, only to even find themselves battling against the drop at one point. Grant McCann would have almost certainly lost his job had it not been for his previous history with the club and, with things being the way they are, the rookie manager has received another opportunity to make things right. The Posh have undergone what can only be described as a summer overhaul as they have seen as many as twelve players leave the club while eight new players have joined so far. The list of those who left includes some regulars such as Michael Bostwick, Paul Taylor, Michael Smith and Tom Nicholls. Meanwhile, as is usually the case, the Posh have mostly focused on trying to unearth gems when bringing in new players. They have an excellent track record of bringing in quality players from the lower leagues and it would be far too premature to write off their summer transfer activity as fruitless despite the relative lack of proven players to sign. Having said that, the likes of Michael Doughty, Jonathan Bond and Steven Taylor are all proven at League One and even Championship level so the Posh can be certain that they have signed at least three quality players this summer. It certainly does not seem that the Posh have made a significant step up in terms of quality of their squad but McCann has been given the summer to make the vision he has for the squad come true and it remains to be seen if the Posh can make the step up and push for promotion this time around.

Target

Their goal will be to battle for a top six place and, with the league being as wide open as it is, there seems to be no reason why they could not achieve this. This is dependent on them gelling properly following all the changes they have had this summer.
