Football Season Review

№11: Bochum

Another mid-table finish for Bochum after another solid season in the second tier. Robin Dutt’s side played very expansive football at times, but very rarely kept a clean sheet. Never in danger of relegation, Bochum quickly faded from the top three. Powered on by the goals of Lukas Hinterseer, Bochum were strong at home and enjoyed some impressive victories over the season which included hitting Ingolstadt for six. Dutt’s youthful squad enjoyed plenty of joy on the flanks with pace of the Tom Weilandt, Milos Pantovic and Chung-yong Lee getting into promising positions and creating goals. However, over the course of the season, Bochum were very poor on their travels and had the worst away points tally. Their open style failed to work as they struggled to kept it tight at the back. Defensively they were less than secure and went on a run after the winter break of four straight defeats. Nevertheless, they were in no danger of relegation with their home form keeping them above water. Key to Bochum’s season was the emergence of talented youngsters Jan Gyamerah and Görkem Saglam. Silvère Ganvoula looked sharp, but struggled in front of goal. Bochum have lost their top goal scorer Hinterseer and Gyamerah to Hamburg so it’s important that Dutt fills those voids. Over the summer they need to keep hold of their talent young players and add to their squad to give them a chance of battling for promotion next season.

Player of the Season: Lukas Hinterseer
