Football Season Review

№14: Erzgebirge Aue

After needing play-off to survive the previous year Erzgebirge did a bit better this term and, thanks to the healthy number of goals scored, the Violets managed to stay out of trouble pretty much all throughout and did enough to feel safe for most of the season. Strong runs both right before the winter break, 2 wins and 2 draws in last 4 games of 2018, and at the end of the season, again 2 wins and 2 draws between rounds 30 and 33, were crucial for Erzgebirge staying out of trouble. In the end the Violets were safe with 2 games to spare. Undoubtedly the main reason for the solid amount of point-flow throughout the campaign were the goals from Testroet, who only joined in late August but by the end of the campaign was indispensable in attack. Iyoha, Hochscheidt and Riese also had good campaigns, while up until leaving in January Rapp was real pillar in defence. With this being first season in charge at senior level for young coach Meyer, Erzgebirge are expected to play even better under his guidance next season, but a lot will depend on if the modest team from Aue manages to keep Testroet in the squad.

Player of the Season: Pascal Testroet
